How we prioritise our work

We are looking forward to working with you! To ensure our comms team can best support you, we have developed workflow guidance and templates that will streamline the way we work together and enable the most successful outcomes for GNS and for your projects.

Whatever your project, it’s likely Comms has the capability you need. But because we don’t have unlimited capacity, we assess all communications requests against a criteria matrix.

We work strategically with the science theme leaders and ELT to ensure our scale of effort aligns with business priorities, and GNS gets the best return.

What level of support do you need?

By asking yourself a few simple questions you can decide whether you just need to send us an email or if you’ll have to brief us using our quick and easy template.
Is GNS leading this work and/or collaborating with partners?
Does this request relate to a project that comms is already supporting?
Is this a significant project for GNS or a commercial opportunity?
Is this likely to receive media and/or broad public interest?
No?
We may not require a brief then. Just send us an email to communications@gns.cri.nz and you’ll hear from us very soon!

Not sure?
Check out our GNS comms service level matrix it might help you decide.

Yes!
Then it might require a silver, gold or platinum level comms campaign. If your comms partner is already working with you on this project, you can go ahead and link with them directly.

If this will be a new piece of work for us then, before we can get started, we need some information.

Comms brief template

Briefing us well about your project is important. It gives us a head start to understand your work, making our interaction with you much more efficient. With a clear brief, we can offer good comms advice and co-design the best communications plan and products to meet your needs.

Please complete this template. Once you have filled in all the required information and sent it through to comms, you can expect to hear from us very soon.

Budgeting for comms

If you require comms products like video, animation, or quality print assets there is a cost attached which will need to be met by the project. We’ve included exemplars and estimates of cost, resource investment and timeframes – take a look at these by choosing from the products on the top menu bar of our The products page.

Managing outsourced comms work
If we don’t have the capacity or capability to develop what you need in house, we have preferred external design partners we work alongside.

Outsourced comms support still requires a strong connection with our GNS comms creative team. It is our job to make sure the external providers understand our GNS persona, have access to all our branding, and provide products that fit our corporate “look and feel”.

If you are seeking to outsource any communications work, contact Creative Lead, Nico Speziali so he can suggest a preferred provider and liaise with them throughout the design and production process.
